What are sats?
A sat — short for satoshi — is the smallest unit of bitcoin: 1/100,000,000 of one coin. Every bitcoin divides into exactly 100 million sats, the way a dollar divides into 100 cents. Small amounts of bitcoin are counted in sats because the numbers are easier to read.

Convert any amount
Bitcoin-only units, no dollars involved. The rate is fixed forever — 100,000,000 sats = 1 BTC — so this one never needs a price feed.
Why bitcoin people count in sats
Whole-bitcoin numbers get awkward fast. Nobody wants to say they earned 0.00002 BTC — the same amount is 2,000 sats, and your brain can actually work with that. Every price, reward, and balance on this site is quoted in sats for exactly that reason.
Sats also fix a mental trap called unit bias: a whole bitcoin costs more than a car, which convinces newcomers they’re priced out. You’re not. Bitcoin is bought, earned, and spent in fractions — $5 buys you thousands of sats as easily as it buys a coffee. “How many sats?” is the honest question, not “how many coins?”
And because sats make small amounts meaningful, they made small earnings meaningful. A 500-sat reward for a quiz sounds — and is — real in a way 0.000005 BTC never would be. That’s the whole culture of “stacking sats”: steady, small, real.
Where the name comes from
Sats are named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of bitcoin, who published its design in 2008, released the software in 2009, and vanished from the internet in 2011 without ever revealing who they were. The community named the smallest unit in tribute. That’s the whole story — you don’t need any more history to use bitcoin.

Sats FAQ
How many sats are in one bitcoin?
Exactly 100,000,000 — one hundred million. The number is fixed in bitcoin's protocol and never changes: a bitcoin can't be diluted or split into more sats later. Hold 100 million sats and you hold one whole bitcoin; every smaller amount scales the same way.
How much is 1,000 sats worth?
1,000 sats is 0.00001 BTC, so multiply the current bitcoin price by 0.00001. At a bitcoin price of $100,000, 1,000 sats is exactly $1. Get the live figure with our sats to USD calculator. 1,000 sats also happens to be the bonus we credit when you join the waitlist.
Can you buy sats directly?
Yes — buying sats and buying bitcoin are the same act. Any exchange or broker will sell you $5 or $10 worth of bitcoin, and it simply arrives as sats; you never need to buy a whole coin. You also don't have to buy at all: legit sites pay sats for surveys, quizzes, and cashback, and we keep a tested list of them.
What does "stacking sats" mean?
It's bitcoin slang for accumulating steadily in small amounts — a few hundred sats from an app here, a few thousand from a survey there — instead of trying to time one big purchase. The phrase stuck because it makes small, consistent progress feel like the point. This site is essentially a stacking-sats manual.
